Name: Hancy Tabi
Title: Local Teacher Program Manager
DOB: 24/06/1992
Gender: Female
Village & Island: Vanulekaro Village, North Pentecost
Educational Background
I began my educational life at Sori Mauri Primary in the northern part of Pentecost in 1999. I completed year 2 in 2001, but then spent one full year at home because of school fee issues. In 2003 I came to live with my adopted parents, both teachers at Ranwadi Churches of Christ College. This meant I was able to continue with school, completing years 3 to 6 at Ranmawot Primary.
I did my year 7 to 8 at Ranwadi Churches of Christ College. In 2009 my father was awarded a scholarship to go and study at the University Of Goroka in PNG, my mother's home country! So I was really fortunate as we all went to PNG for two years, which meant I did my year 9 to 10 at Goroka Secondary School. We then returned to Vanuatu and I continued my year 11 to 12 at Ranwadi Churches of Christ College. In 2013 my parents came to teach at Malapoa College in Port Vila, so I studied in year 13 there. From 2014 onwards I have attended the University of the South Pacific Emalus Campus studying a Bachelor of Science & Graduate Certificate in Education.
Work Experience
During my second year at the University of the South Pacific I went to Vila Central Hospital to do an attachment in the Laboratory. I learned a lot of new things such as testing for full blood count in haematology, how transfusions are made and how to find different blood groups of a human being. Just last year in September I came to teach at Tebakor College, teaching year 11 Chemistry and Biology and also year 12 Biology. I decided to teach because I wanted to gain teaching experience before continuing further studies in the educational field.
VLSSS Experience
During my time at VLSSS I’ve seen a lot of changes in individual students. I found that students learned and discovered a lot of new things, not only in the classroom, but also public speaking, health & hygiene and improving their French and English speaking. I believe VLSSS will change the lives of Ni-Vanuatu by building our young, inspirational leaders with positive character to shine out to our people not just in their own community but the country as a whole. With our short and long-term plan, I strongly believe that VLSSS will grow and become one of the first NGOs in Vanuatu to help our grass roots through education.
